| • | For a video tutorial on the Diagnosis Selection screen click here. |

| • | Throughout MEDENT, e.g. Referrals, Charge Entry, Superbills, we have a Select Dx button (or a Dx link). The diagnosis cache file transfers to the PC for quick lookup. |
| • | This file gets rebuilt with each backup. The first time you click Select Dx after an update, a message comes on the screen updating diagnosis code frequency file. Once over it doesn't update again until a new file is created after a backup. |
| • | How to find and delete on the PC: Right click on Start > Explore > medent > The diagnosis file is in the Cache directory > Right click on Cache and click delete to force new file to come over. |
|
| • | This screen is used in the E-Superbill, Charge Entry, Lab Order, X-Ray Order, Order, Therapy, and Progress Note areas of MEDENT when the Select Dx button (or Dx link) is clicked. |
| • | Right click on the Dx to view alternative descriptions that have been set up in the Diagnosis Master File |
| • | : Customize your defaults for the screen. Select your Default Field, either Code or Description. Select your Frequency Mode, either Frequency or Full Frequency. Note: This is per user. |
| • | Frequency: Displays the Frequency List, which is the practice's most commonly used diagnoses in alphabetical order. Note: A new system starts out with the Full lookup as the default. After the frequency has built nightly, and the office has used many of its common codes regularly, it is effective to switch to the Frequency to speed up the selection process. |
| • | Search Mode: Enter terms in the Description field to search. |
| • | Patient Dx's: If the patient has any prior diagnoses, they will appear in this list (most recent to oldest). |
| • | C: Any diagnosis codes that were marked as chronic |
| • | P: Any diagnosis in the patient's Problem List. The user can click on the P to view only the problem list diagnoses. The link will then turn to red. |
| • | The date the patient was diagnosed will show on the left hand side. |
| • | Any diagnoses that are marked as Problems will be highlighted in blue. |
| • | A diagnosis selected today from the Patient's Dx's will carry over to today's Selected Dx's. If that diagnosis is marked as Chronic and/or in the Problem List, that diagnosis will not be repeated in the Problem List with the current date. |
| • | Selected Dx's (Click Items to Remove): Any diagnoses that have been selected (either from the Dx List or the Patient Dx list) will appear in this list. |
| • | Chronic/Problem flags are carried from the Patient Dx list but are not updated to the Patient's Problem List, they are updated to the Dx History for today's date. |
| • | To remove one or more, click on the item. The user can mark Selected Dx's as chronic by checking the C column. The Problem List will automatically be checked also. The user can also just check the P to add this Dx to the Problem List. |
| • | Code: Enter the Diagnosis Code. The more numbers that are entered, the more the list will narrow. |
| • | Description / Search: Enter in the Dx description. As letters are typed, the list will narrow. If you type in letters and nothing shows on the screen, press [Enter] to run a search. If you then see what you want, press [Enter] or click on the item. If you do not, you can continue to type and press [Enter]. It will search again. You can also click on the Search button when you have two or more letters in the description field. When you run the search we generate a list of dx codes that have a partial or full match to what you type in the search field, then we arrange them with the following logic. |
| 1. | Full Word First word of description = 11 points |
| 2. | Full Word Any word of description = 5 points |
| 3. | Partial Word First word of description = 3 points |
| 4. | Partial Word Any word of description = 1 point |
| 5. | Then any matches on key words will display after that |
| 6. | We add up the total number of points and display the results in that order. |
| • | WC/MV: If this visit is Worker's Comp / Motor Vehicle related, this field would have the corresponding Insurance information. |
| • | CPT Selection: This button appears when selecting diagnoses in a Progress Note or E-Superbill. Click this button to access the CPT selection screen. |
